| どんなところ? What is Blue Mountains like? 소개 |
ユネスコ世界遺産に指定されている国立公園に囲まれたまちです。標高600メートル～1000メートル級の山々が重なり、山全体を覆うユーカリの樹海から蒸発する油滴で山々が青く霞んで見えるため、ブルーマウンテンズという名前が付いたと言われています。 オーストラリア固有の動植物も多く生息し、自然を楽しみながら歩けるブッシュウォークの道が整備されています。多くの芸術家が住んで活躍しているためCity of the Arts（芸術のまち）とも言われています。 It is surrounded by a national park designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are mountains having altitudes of 600-1000 meters, and as the mountains look blue and misty due to oil drops evaporated from an ocean of Eucalyptus trees covering the mountains, it is said that the place was named Blue Mountains. There are many Australian native animals, plants, and bushwalks where you can enjoy the beautiful nature. It is also called the City of the Arts as many active artists live there. 유네스코 세계유산에 지정된 국립공원으로 둘러싸인 지역입니다. 해발 600m~1000m급의 산들이 연이어 있으며 산 전체를 덮고 있는 울창한 유칼리나무 숲에서 증발하는 기름방울로 인해 산들이 파랗게 안개가 낀 것처럼 보이기 때문에 블루마운틴즈라는 이름이 붙여졌다고 알려져 있습니다.오스트레일리아 고유의 동식물도 많이 생식하며 자연을 즐기며 걸을 수 있는 부시워크 길이 정비되어 있습니다. 이 외에도 City of the Arts라는 수식어가 붙을 정도로 많은 예술가들이 이 지역에 살고 있으며 활약을 펼치고 있습니다. |
| 提携の経緯 The process toward the sister city partnership 제휴 경위 |
昭和61年ピーター・カーク元市長夫妻が東京での国際観光会議出席のため来日し、オーストラリア総領事館及びニューサウスウェールズ州政府観光局の仲介により三田市を訪問されました。その後、三田市国際交流推進懇話会を設置し、ブルーマウンテンズ市との姉妹都市提携について協議を行いました。 昭和62年に三田市から使節団を派遣し、姉妹都市提携の見通しを確認しました。 Former-mayor Peter Kirk and his wife came to Japan to attend the International Tourism Conference in 1986 and visited Sanda City through the intermediation of Australian Consulate-General and New South Wales Tourist Commission. After that, Sanda City organized the Sanda International Exchange Promotion Social Gathering and discussed the idea of a sister city partnership with the city of Blue Mountains. A delegation was dispatched from Sanda City in 1987, and confirmed the perspective of the proposal, regarding a sister city partnership. 1986년 피터 커크 전 시장 부부가 국제관광회의에 참석하기 위해 도쿄를 방문했을 때, 오스트레일리아 총영사관 및 뉴사우스웨일즈주의 정부관광국의 중개로 산다시를 방문했습니다. 그 후, 산다시 국제교류추진간담회를 설치하여 블루마운틴즈시와의 자매도시 제휴에 대해서 협의를 하였습니다. 1987년에 산다시에서 사절단을 파견하여 자매도시 제휴에 대한 전망을 확인하였습니다. |

エコーポイントは世界的に有名な奇岩スリーシスターズを見渡せる展望台です。急斜面の端に位置し、ジャミソン渓谷の雄大な景色が楽しめます。また、最大傾斜52度で滑り降りるトロッコ列車のあるシーニックワールドまで徒歩圏内の距離にあります。 Echo Point Lookout is the home of the world famous Three Sisters. The lookout is perched on the edge of an escarpment and has gorgeous views of the Jamison Valley. ブルーマウンテンズ市議会は12名の市議会議員（任期4年、市内4地区からそれぞれ3名の議員を選出）で構成される。議員の互選により市長が選出されるが、地位は名誉職で行政執行機関はゼネラルマネージャーが最高責任者。市議会は3週間に1回開催される。 The city council of Blue Mountains consists of 12 members (4-year term, 3 members are chosen from each of 4 districts in the city). The mayor is chosen from the commissioners by mutual election although it is an honorary post; the general manager is the chief officer of the administration. The city council is held once every 3 weeks. 블루마운틴즈 시의회는 12명의 시의회 의원(임기 4년, 시내 4지구에서 각각 3명의 의원을 선출)으로 구성됩니다. 의원들의 호선에 의해 시장을 선출하지만 지위는 명예직으로, 행정집행기관은 제너럴매니저가 최고책임자입니다. 시의회는 3주에 1회 개최됩니다. |
| まちのおこり The origin of the city 유래 |
1770年にキャプテンクックがオーストラリアに上陸してから、ブルーマウンテンズは開拓者たちにとって越えられない壁とされていました。 1813年にブラックスランド、ローソン、ウエントワースという3人の冒険家によって、はじめてブルーマウンテンズを横断するルートが発見されたことで、本格的にまちの開拓が始まりました。 Since Captain Cook landed in Australia in 1770, The Blue Mountains were considered as an insurmountable wall by colonists. A route crossing the Blue Mountains was discovered by 3 adventurers named Blaxland, Lawson, and Wentworth in 1813, and it was then full-scale development of the town began. 1770년에 캡틴 쿡이 오스트레일리아에 상륙한 이래 블루마운틴즈는 개척자들에게는 넘을 수 없는 벽이었습니다. 1813년에 블랙스랜드, 로슨, 웬트워스 3명의 모험가에 의해 처음으로 블루마운틴즈를 횡단하는 경로가 발견되어 본격적으로 개척이 시작되었습니다. |
